Re septic tank pumping, several companies who have pumped ours in the past have told me that a properly operating tank should not need to be pumped. We just had it pumped after about 5-7 years, and we were told that it looked good.

Vegetable gardening - why not over the tank if tank feeds into a field away from garden?

I recently had my tanks pumped and had to replace a lift pump, by two separate companies, but neither handles anything downstream of the tanks (i.e., the septic field). I'd really like to have the field checked out but it's been frustratingly difficult to find out who to contact. Help!

We have lived in our country home for 27 years and it has a septic tank system was originally built in the mid-1970's. When we bought the house, the previous owner could not pinpoint where to access the tank. We have had people out to help us locate the access, but we never have found it. This is household of 2-3 people but we have never had the system pumped. Any suggestions?

01:07:14
I have had the same question about acids. Do you know the pH of a typical septic liquid?

01:07:58
Can you explain risers?

01:07:58
Medley Septic did our riser and pumping. They were great to work with and are familiar with this program.

01:17:31

01:17:45
$150-$200 for pumping

Sometimes more if it is hard to access or in poor shape (lots of sludge).

Can an individual do the liquid tracing dye test to just check on things?

If you are interested in the Friends of Lake Monroe cost-share program for septic system maintenance, please apply online here: https://friendsoflakemonroe.org/septic/ or you can call me (Maggie Sullivan) at (812) 558-0217 to apply over the phone.

01:25:21
Not a question, just a clarification. I am interested in the pH of septic fluids to understand the potential impact of adding small amounts of, for example, ammonia (high pH), Tilex, or Lime-Away (low pH).

Thank you both, this has been very interesting. Good job!
