Can you run the sprinkler on the septic field during dry periods?
Re septic tank pumping, several companies who have pumped ours in the past have told me that a properly operating tank should not need to be pumped. We just had it pumped after about 5-7 years, and we were told that it looked good.
Vegetable gardening - why not over the tank if tank feeds into a field away from garden?
Should we add commercial bacteria each year, e. g. Robeic?
We’ve heard that there are tablets to flush down a toilet to reintroduce bacteria to septic tanks. Do you recommend doing this?

Does the 3-5 yr pumping schedule apply to a household with 3 bedrooms, but only a senior couple living there?
I recently had my tanks pumped and had to replace a lift pump, by two separate companies, but neither handles anything downstream of the tanks (i.e., the septic field). I'd really like to have the field checked out but it's been frustratingly difficult to find out who to contact. Help!

How important is the pH of the waste water? I sometime use acid dyes - do I need to neutralize the dye bath water before I pour it down the drain?
Do you have a list of companies that install risers?
We have lived in our country home for 27 years and it has a septic tank system was originally built in the mid-1970's. When we bought the house, the previous owner could not pinpoint where to access the tank. We have had people out to help us locate the access, but we never have found it. This is household of 2-3 people but we have never had the system pumped. Any suggestions?
I have had the same question about acids. Do you know the pH of a typical septic liquid?
Can you explain risers?
Medley Septic did our riser and pumping. They were great to work with and are familiar with this program.

how many gallons does a typical septic tank hold
what is the average cost to have a 1000 gal tank pumped?
$150-$200 for pumping
Sometimes more if it is hard to access or in poor shape (lots of sludge).
Can an individual do the liquid tracing dye test to just check on things?

Not a question, just a clarification. I am interested in the pH of septic fluids to understand the potential impact of adding small amounts of, for example, ammonia (high pH), Tilex, or Lime-Away (low pH).
Thank you both, this has been very interesting. Good job!
Thanks for all the information!
Great job. Very Helpful!
